Saint Francesco Church-Robecco

Mobirise

The Church is located in a place rich in history, right against what was supposed to be the ancient Robecco castle, near Gromo di Ternengo House which brought us to believe that it could have also played the role of chapel.

It was desired by the noble Guidone Pietrasanta with his testament of 3 April 1310 in which he disposed that it had to rise against the walls and the tower of the castle of the place and had to have an open window on the square, so that " the people could see the body of Jesus to find comfort.”

Inside there is an altarpiece depicting the "stigmata of S. Francesco" attributed to Marcantonio Mainardi said the Chiaveghino ( artist from Cremona 1570 -1629). A faithful copy of the picture is present in the church of S. Andrea of Casterno, having a lower qualitative level .

Since it was built it depended on the Parish Church of Sant'Andrea di Casterno, passing then to the management of the church of San Giovanni Battista when this obtained an independent parish dignity.
